What a fabulous idea! I'm not currently working with metallic threads (or silk velvet), but I will keep this in mind the next time I do!

Good question Susan. I'm going to try this tomorrow when I do the sleeves. In the very small spirals of the design I am stitching out there were waxed paper bits....I can't tell if it is more or less than I would have had with the solvy. I don't like to actually melt the solvy on velvet, usually I just pick it off the best I can. So I am going to experiment a bit more with the waxed paper and figure out the best placement of it. I'll let you know how it goes! But just lowering the frustration level is a huge relief, so I'm sure there is going to be a happy ending here.

So what happens if you put the wax paper on the bottom under the whole hooped shebang? Just tear off a maga piece and wrap it around on top and lightly pin it in place (or use some micropore tape to hold it in place) and then do your basting stitch. Remove the pins/tape and go from there?
